Taxes can be a veritable minefield full of paperwork and complex, seemingly ever changing, rules and regulations. These can be complex enough for U.S. residents, but if you’re a foreign national or non-U.S. resident, filing your tax returns can be even more baffling.
If you’re working within real estate, investment or business, and are a foreign national or non-US resident, then you’re required to file a tax return with the Internal Revenue Service, or IRS, and obtain an ITIN, or Individual Taxpayer Identifying Number.
What is an ITIN?
An ITIN is a number issued by the IRS to help process taxes of those who are legally required to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number, but who don’t have a Social Security Number (SSN) issued by the Social Security Administration (SSA) or are not eligible for one.
Who can help determine whether you’re eligible for an SSN?
Acceptance Agents are individuals, businesses or organisations authorized by the IRS to help assess people for social security numbers, they may be colleges, financial institutions or accounting firms, for example. If the individual is not eligible for an SSN, then the acceptance agents will assist them with the ITIN application process, which involves filing a form W-7.
Why using a Certified Acceptance Agent can make your life easier:
Our certified Acceptance Agents can save you the hassle of having to send your original identification documents to the IRS, or getting them certified by your country of origins issuance agency, by certifying them ourselves and filing your ITIN or W-7 application with the IRS.
Here is what you need to do to obtain your ITIN:

- After the appointment, our agents will give you two documents to be signed, including your W-7 application and 1040NR tax return.
- Once submitted, your application may take up to 8 weeks for the IRS to complete and submit.
