Guidance for Choosing Outsourced Tax & Accounting Services

July 28, 2021 by heyer-blog

Outsourcing some (or all) of your tax and accounting requirements is a great way to help keep your business afloat in these trying times, and the specialist advice and guidance they give, can save you not just time, but money. However, while signing up to work with an outsourcing service provider may be a convenient and efficient decision, it’s imperative that you find the right one to suit your specific needs.

Below are some factors to consider when selecting an outsourced tax and accounting service:

  • Are you clear on your accounting and tax requirements?

Your requirements, project scope, goals, time and budget are all important things to consider before you begin your search for the right outsourced service provider. Focusing on your requirements and having a clear idea as to what you expect from them, will help ensure you have a fruitful relationship with your chosen firm.

  • Do they have enough expertise and experience?

The accounting and tax specialists in your chosen service provider must have the right qualifications, experience and expertise in your specific domain, along with a list of satisfied clients and relevant services.

  • What technology and resources are at their disposal?

Expertise is essential, but only when combined with the right technology can it truly be of benefit to you and your business. Check whether they’re making use of all the latest technology and can combine it with their knowledge and training to give you the best results.

  • Do they have a good track record for meeting deadlines?

If you find satisfied customers of theirs (if you don’t, this could raise a red flag), be sure to check whether the service provider was able to produce the relevant work for them on time, and in a transparent manner. You will have your own project deadlines, then of course there will also be the usual tax deadlines to meet, too. Failure to do so can result in stiff penalties and hefty fines, so checking their response times and timeliness is paramount.

  • Can you communicate effectively with them?

Being able to communicate effectively with your chosen provider is the only way you’ll ever have a sound working relationship, anything less could quickly result in dissatisfaction and work not being completed on time or in the manner in which you wish.

While there are many good outsourced accounting and tax service providers available all over the country, the only way to find the very best is by carrying out research, checking with previous clients and trusting your instincts. Often, you can tell a lot about a provider by the way they communicate with you; if dealing with them is effortless, and they have all the right qualifications, expertise and technology, they could well be a good fit for you and your business.
